Just a quick post to remind all pet owners that Halloween can be a stressful and even dangerous day for pets. Lots of activity in the neighborhood with treat or treaters and the doorbell ringing continuously can make pets nervous. And when they are scared, some pets may be likely to run out the door.

If your pet has a tendency to be nervous, it’s a good idea to secure him or her in a closed room away from all of the activity with the TV or radio playing. It’s not something that anyone wants to think about but if your pet does happen to escape, microchips and/or ID tags will help ensure that your furry friend gets returned safely to you. After working in animal shelters for years, I can’t tell you how many strays come in without identification.

And remember that candy can be harmful to pets, especially dark chocolate ingested by small dogs. But it’s best to keep all candy out of reach of pets.

Have a spook-tacular Halloween!
